Two violins, a double bass, and an accordion – Simon Mayer and his co-performers are not only trained dancers, they are also outstanding musicians. SONS OF SISSY starts off with straightforward traditional Upper Austrian folk dancing and Alpine sounds. But this homey cosmos will be deconstructed with relish over the course of the evening by this wacky quartet. The music disintegrates into its individual parts, the counterclockwise circular motion becomes independent, increasingly recalling ritualistic practices. The »Sons of Sissy,« with a sharpened sociological perspective and their experiences as contemporary performers with Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Wim Vandekey, pick to pieces the traditional male roles in folk customs.

Biography
Simon Mayer, performer, dancer, choreographer, and musician (b. 1984 in Austria), studied at the Wiener Staatsballett school, at the Performing Arts, Research and Training Studios (PARTS) in Brussels, and he was a member of the Wiener Staatsballett. In 2009 he founded his band Rising halfmoon as singer, guitarist, and songwriter. As a dancer, choreographer, and musician he performed in, among others, productions by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker/ROSAS (THE SONG); Wim Vandekeybus (FRISKING); and Zita Swoon. His choreographic repertoire includes solos, duos, and ensemble pieces that have been performed internationally. Simon Mayer was artist-in-residence at Theatre de LL in Brussels, and he is the artistic director of the SPIEL festival, which he initiated together with his brothers and the association m-arts.
