CASSIDY is a multimedia monologue on art, intelligence services, and paranoia. The starting point is an up-to-now hardly well-known chapter in the Cold War: the CIA's secret art sponsorship program. Literature, film, painting, and music became an ideological battlefield between the East and the West in postwar Europe. The CIA searched for a way to counter the Eastern Bloc's effective propaganda by using Western values and concepts: The solution was the »Congress for Cultural Freedom.« Under this cover the CIA provided festivals, magazines, and publishing houses with money and agents. From George Orwell to Heinrich Böll, from Igor Stravinsky to Jackson Pollock: With its sponsorships the CIA wrote part of the art history we know today.
Cassidy, a character somewhere between conceptual artist and terrorist, commits himself to the fight against the growing power of the intelligence services. In his search for the truth, however, he's in danger of becoming lost in the maze of alliances. He knows that his opponents are giants and not windmills.
